There has been an ongoing conversation over the last few years about the effects of climate change, and Spring Power & Gas has continually posted about it on our blog as awareness and discussion increases about the issue. If you want to play your part in helping to combat global warming, then the best thing you can do is reduce your eco-impact and carbon footprint. While you might feel making a difference is challenging, it can be quite simple and involve just a few minor lifestyle changes, such as:

  • Simply purchasing less stuff (e.g., clothes, food, etc.).
  • Reducing your food waste by planning your meals, freezing leftovers, and composting food scraps.
  • Driving less and choosing more earth-friendly modes of transportation, such as bicycling or walking.
  • Purchasing food that’s local and organic.
  • Avoiding single-use plastics by bringing reusable bags on shopping trips.
  • Carrying around a reusable water bottle instead of using plastic bottles.
  • Looking for different ways to save energy at home (like remembering to flick the light switch to “off” when you leave a room).
  • Upcycling your old/unused belongings and giving them a new life.
  • Not supporting fast-fashion brands.
  • Only run full loads of laundry and dishes.
  •  Air-drying your clothing and dishes.
  • Installing low-flow faucets and showerheads in your bathroom and kitchen.

To complement your sustainable lifestyle, there’s another impactful way you can help play your part. Consider donating to a climate change charity! With the year just beginning, you may be looking for different non-profit organizations to support in 2021. Think about contributing to one that’s not just benefitting the Earth, but all of its living creatures too.

We’ve done the research and have come up with some of the best climate change charities to donate to. Keep reading below to learn more.

1. The Environmental Defense Fund

For more than 50 years, the Environmental Defense Fund has been cultivating innovative approaches to environmental issues and is one of the world’s leading environmental organizations. The organization was brought to life in 1967 by a lawyer and group of scientists in Long Island, New York, who were fighting to save osprey from the toxic pesticide DDT. By creating the most effective solutions, EDF tackles environmental challenges in different areas including the climate, energy, ecosystems, oceans, and health.

2. EarthJustice

EarthJustice’s headline states, “We are here because we need a good lawyer,” and it helps illustrate what they are all about. While stated in their mission statement, EarthJustice fights a multitude of different environmental issues, with climate protection as a top priority. It is one of the biggest non-profit environmental law organizations in the United States.

3. Union of Concerned Scientists

Founded over 50 years ago by scientists and students at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Union of Concerned Scientists is a national nonprofit organization with a mission “to use rigorous, independent science to solve our planet’s most pressing problems. Joining with people across the country, [they] combine technical analysis and effective advocacy to create innovative, practical solutions for a healthy, safe, and sustainable future.” Among its many goals, this organization seeks to combat climate change to mitigate its detrimental effects and also develops sustainable energy solutions.

4. The Solutions Project

The Solutions Project started in 2011 by prominent leaders spanning across various industries including science, business, and media, utilizing the combined efforts of individuals within these industries to accelerate the transition to 100% renewable energy use in America. This organization also focuses on justice and equity, striving to provide a voice and leadership to underrepresented groups.

Protecting the environment is one of our greatest obstacles and responsibilities. With rapid and transformative change associated with global warming, we each must do what we can to avoid these risks to protect human livelihood and health. Consider donating to one of these highly-rated organizations today.
